Mission – Learn something new everyday

I recently watched Julie & Julia, an inspirational flick all about taking chances, making mistakes and learning. Since then I have been wanting to complete a similar project, one that fulfill’s my desire to constantly learn and grow. So, I have come up with a personal challenge that is not as focused as Julie’s was — on food. However, I will aim to learning something new every single day.

My friend Kim knows that I want to learn to crochet a hat. She left me the materials and a book that she wrote on my desk but it’s been sitting there for a week. So, I just need to put the computer, iPhone or Kindle down and just get crocheting

This is just one of the things I will complete during this challenge. I will name it – “Something New”. This project will have no deadline as I believe that learning is constant.

So, how about we learn together.

Day 1 of Wild Rose Cleanse

I promised myself on December 31st that before this month ended I would do the Wildrose Cleanse again and get back to the gym. Well, it’s January 10th and I’m fulfilling the first part of this commitment to myself.

I am on day 1 of this 12 day journey. I expect to come out quite refreshed and more energized, I know…scary. The cleanse itself is 12 days however I plan to follow the diet for 30 days. Yup, that means no bread, no booze or refined carbs.

I have done this cleanse before and I believe the best way to succeed is to plan out your meals well in advance. With that being said, I will share with you my progress.

Here are some pictures from Day 1.

Breakfast – Oatmeal sprinkled with cinnamon.

Consuming my 2 cups of coffee allowed for the day in one seating with soy milk.

Dinner – Steamed Broccoli, Baked Potato seasoned with herbs and baked chicken breast seasoned with herbs.

Snack – Air popped popcorn with some butter and pepper.

What I am missing here are the berries and nuts I had with me while I was on a spa date with my girlfriends. That is another thing I recommend, always have almonds, berries and carrots on you. This will help you ward off temptation.

I’m looking forward to day 2.

I found my 2007 agenda today, I absolutely loved it. I was such a collector, like a little girl my agendas were full of pictures, stickers and sayings I loved.

Fast forward to today.

Things haven’t changed, instead of physically collecting things I love, I digg them, bookmark them or blog about them. Call me old fashioned but I realized today that there is something so romantic about putting ink to paper, pasting pictures and licking stickers. I’m going to start doing this more often. Like washing dishes, I find it extremely peaceful! I know, I know, I’m a dork.

I was so excited when I got to speak with Meghan for SugarTuesday! I have been following her life cast for awhile and was extremely stunned to learn how fun, humble and awesome she truly is!

Self proclaimed “Tech Diva” Meghan Asha is not only easy on the eyes but is a girl who’s embracing her culture to the fullest and loving every moment. Some may think that life cast’s are extremely narcissistic however Meghan does a great job in balancing her love for tech, chocolate and her South Asian roots.

I spoke with Meghan because I think she fits the SugarTuesday mantra perfectly, she’s a young female South Asian entrepreneur who’s following her passion and enjoying every second because of it.

I came across this picture of myself while cleaning out my hotmail inbox. This picture was taken almost 4 years ago the day after my BFF’s wedding. I’m so classy throwing up peace signs with evidence of mehndi still inked on my hands. Thankfully, I don’t colour my hair blonde anymore.

I have met a lot of fabulous people working at BES, most of whom are entrepreneurs doing their thing, following their passion and just getting sh*t done. I felt as though I needed something like that in my life, an extra oomph besides my 9 – 5.

For those who have NO clue, I have been working on SugarTuesday.com. A passion project formerly known as iSTYLE Magazine founded by a good friend, Harjot Bassra.

SugarTuesday.com is the voice of the rapidly emerging unified global South Asian scene. Through exclusive reporting and stunning photography, SugarTuesday.com is able to apply a lens to the talent and creativity of the latest generation of South Asians blazing their own path into mainstream media. Formerly known as iSTYLE Magazine, SugarTuesday.com is the next generation remixed, relaunched and reinvented.

I feel extremely excited to be a part of such an amazing project. South Asians are involved in so many fun and inspiring projects and I truly feel that they need to be celebrated.

My contribution to SugarTuesday.com is going to be an life-cast blog named “Sonia with an I“. My blog will consist of photographs, videos and text that will paint a picture to the reader, a picture so bright that the reader will feel inspired by the topic at hand. OR. They will be informed on where they can find the best nachos in Vancouver!

I have some pretty cool peeps lined up for interviews. I can’t reveal who, because Sugars don’t reveal their sweetness. Stay tuned…
